Overview

Tucked away close to breathtaking gorges, valleys and lush greenery, Kali Adventure Camp, Dandeli, represents the ultimate paradise for nature lovers. At a distance of 481 km from Bangalore and 125 km from Goa, Dandeli is well connected by road and easily accessible from Delhi, Bombay, Pune & Hyderabad as well. Situated on the banks of the majestic Kali River, this wilderness camp is one that combines the vast ruggedness of the jungle with the reassuring comforts of home. Dandeli offers plenty of opportunities, and will leave you enthralled with the unfathomable mystery of nature. The number of places and the variety of activities that exist here are limitless. Stay with us for a while…who knows, you may never want to go back again!

Accomodation

The reception area of Kali camp is set inside the main bungalow. This bungalow houses ten spacious rooms with attached baths, the indoor dining area (which doubles as a conference hall for groups) and the manager’s office. There is an area exclusively for indoor games too. Facing the River Kali are eleven twin-bedded, Swiss tents, which offer luxury and a close-to-nature experience. Each tent has its own hammock to laze around and a small camp fire area. The camp also houses a 12 bedded family room and an ethnic mud-cottage.

Facilities
At the far end of the tents is our Ghol Ghar – a round, open-to-sides gazebo – which is exclusively for guests to dine. JLR strongly believes that communal dining encourages sharing of experiences among guests.

The Indoor games parlour has a table tennis area and a carom board too. Guests interested in watching TV can make use of the lounge at the main bungalow.

Jungle Lodges and Resorts’ Kali Camp is very popular for its adventure sports, especially white-water rafting. Our expert river guide – John Pollard, who has been with us for over few years, supervises the rafting operations at Kali. All our rafts are imported, self-bailable and adhere to strict safety standards. Our river guides are highly experienced and will go conduct a session on river safety and commands for our guests before taking them on a run. All guests would be provided with safety gear like life jackets, helmets and oar.

Kali also offers other adventure activities like canyoning, canoeing, kayakings, mountain biking. Jungle Lodges is geared with all necessary equipment for the activities. We even have exclusive jeeps and trailers o transport these equipment and rafts from place to place.

 The Cuisine

Kali offers the best of local cuisine in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Primarily Indian in nature, we can make our cuisine suit your palate. Our chefs are adept at serving both Chinese and contental food on request. Kali also has a well-stocked bar for its guests.

Activities

The River Kali dominates Dandeli, be it from its banks or from atop a mountain. Feel the tingling of adventure in your blood as you toss swiftly over the bubbling waters in a native, saucer-shaped coracle made of bamboo & tanned thick buffalo hide. Then is just the right time for bird watching. Weaverbirds meticulously working at their nests, pied kingfishers & egrets on the riverbank, cormorants gliding just above the river… Kali abounds with bird life. Watch your heart skip a beat as you hear a loud splash ahead of you. Only for a fraction of a second can you discern a crocodile and all that you finally get to see is only its tail.

Kali is a river of two faces! For those who really want to feel the fury of its cascading waters and experience the thrill of white water rafting, this is the place for it. Battle the swift currents in a rubber dinghy, and as you pull through the swirling waters with vigorous action of the oars, it will be a fascinating experience that will remain with you forever. Jungle Lodges and Resorts offers safe yet true adrenalin rush white water rafting on River Kali

Adventure activities: Other activities offered at Kali are  Mountain biking, Kayaking, Wall Climbing etc

Guests will also be taken on jeep safaris into the Dandeli Wildlife sanctuary early in the mornings and during the late evenings.

Tribes of Dandeli - Dandeli is one of the few places in Karnataka where you can find diverse tribal communities living in close proximity to each other, in the same forest area. One such is the interesting Siddi tribe. Over 400 years ago, this entirely Negroid race formed the slave trade between the Portugese and the Indian Princely states. The Portugese are gone, but descendants of these Negroid slaves ran away and escaped into the jungle and have managed to survive till today.
The Gowlis are yet another face of tribal Karnataka. Originally Marathi speaking nomadic grazers, they have now settled in the interiors of the Dandeli forests. Cattle are their sole wealth and they depend entirely on the jungle for their needs. You can also come across the colourful Lambani tribal women in Dandeli. Their origin is Rajasthan. They are like Gypsies, living their lives, as if there is no 'tomorrow'. Dance to a folksong with them, unravel their long forgotten culture, and tune in to a bygone era.

Also there are many important natural places to visit during your stay at Kali

Kavala Caves – Situated at a distance of 25 km from the base camp at Dandeli, these caves have a gigantic ‘Shivling’ formed inside. An awe-inspiring sight, one needs to crawl to get into the caves.
Syntheri Rock – Syntheri Rock is a 300-feet tall monolithic granite located deep inside the thick Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary. With the Kaneri River gushing ferociously by its side, the Syntheri Rock is a spectacular sight. A jeep ride for about an hour followed by a walk through the scenic jungle will bring you to this incredibly beautiful sculpture of nature. Sykes Point is one of the most beautiful viewing spots in Karnataka. From here one can get an unhindered view of the Kali River flowing through the gorges & the valleys below. For miles together, one can see nothing but undulating lush green forests all around.
From atop Siroli Peak - the highest point in the entire Uttara Kanara district, view the magnificent unbroken vista of the mighty rain forest. An ideal picnic spot, this place can be reached travelling by jeep to the summit – or by trekking.
Camping at Molangi – If the outdoors is what excites you, then Molangi is the place to be! A spot of indelible beauty, Molangi has God’s signature all over it. Situated at a point amidst dense bamboo thickets where the River Kali passes between steep slopes and rock formations, Molangi makes a perfect hideout for campers.
Yet another ideal location is the Nagajhari Valley, around which are densely forested mountains and streams running as far as the eye can see.

The adventure never ends at the Kali Adventure Camp. Come to Dandeli and see for yourself!

Wildlife

Both Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary and its adjacent Anshi National Park house huge tracts of moist- deciduous forest. Although a know habitat of the rare black panther, the large size of the forest makes spotting them very difficult. Yet, many of our guests have spotted it and other wild animals such as spotted deer, sambar, barking deer, sloth bear, gaur (Indian bison), wild boars, fox, jackal, pangolin and elephants. Our guests have also had frequent sighting of the great pied hornbill, yellow footed pigeon, crested serpent eagle, adjutant stork, black crested baza and peafowls. The forests of Dandeli and Anshi are home to over 200 species of birds. From the Camp, one can sight Malabar hornbills nesting across the river. Ashy swallow shirkes, drongos, minivets, iora, brahminy kites, and many others birds can be spotted from the camp.

Season

Dandeli is very pleasant and inviting from October to about beginning March. White-water rafting season starts from November and goes on till June. The monsoon season starts from June till September and the forests are at their greenest best then. April-June are the driest months and the temperatures can touch 40°C.
